Francesco is the great grandson of the 28th Baron Bettino Ricasoli who in wrote the Chianti formula in a letter to Prof. Cesare Studiati at the University of Pisa:. Francesco does not feel any pressure from the historic fact that the family has invented the formula for Chianti but is rather stimulated by further developing his wines. He has, for example, built a new winery between the harvests of and with both new and somewhat secret process technology. Much of the technology improvements are about a controlled drying of the grapes, temperature control during fermentation and the ability to vinify each vineyard individually. Another development is the reduced use of oak. Wine aged in tonneaux has consistently proved better in blind tastings than the same wine stored in barrique in recent years.

We oblige, quickly and without hesitation. The wonderful vineyards of Ricasoli. Every corner of the grand Gaiole estate, 1, hectares of property that includes nearly hectares of planted vines and 26 of olive groves. We take in all five major types of soils identified on the estate though truth be told there are at least 19 different combinations of terroir. Ricasoli is extremely proud of this highly variegated geography. First we step out where harvest is taking place, along a m ridge line housing the ancient fluvial terrace.

Chianti, situated in the region of Tuscany in central Italy, is home to probably the best-known of all Stores and prices for ' Barone Ricasoli Chianti DOCG.

Barone Ricasoli, inventor and re-inventor of Chianti

Brolio Riserva is very classic in its composition, in its ageing, in its overall appearance from the label to the last sip. Velvety, dense ruby, dense nose with rich fruit, especially blackberry and some elderberry. In the taste smooth, the course polished with fine-grained tannin and long-lasting reverberation. Slightly stalky and a little reductive on the nose. Plenty of concentrated sweet-tangy cherry fruit and grainy tannins. Great balance.

Mild autumn wit little rainfall. Heavy snowfall in February with cold temperatures for several days. The summer came early with high temperatures and a total absence of rain from mid June to the end of August. In early September abundant rainfall refresh the ground and the air allowing the vines to resume the ripening process and complete it in the best possible way. The vintage turned out to be of good quality, with peaks of excellence in both the Merlot and the Sangiovese, and this shows just how suited this area is to quality viticulture in difficult vintages too.

Brolio successfully matches the superior drinkability that defines Chianti Classico in its young version with a full, complex structure, which makes this wine excellent in its category. The lands vary much from one another, while sharing a gravelly composition. Mild autumn wit little rainfall. Heavy snowfall in February with cold temperatures for several days.
