Overwatch is an online team-based first person shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment , and released worldwide in May Normally played in matches of six-vs-six, players select from one of over 30 heroes , broadly classified into the three roles of Tank, Damage, and Support, and work with their team to attack or defend map objectives. Each hero has a unique set of weapons, abilities, and skills, which players use to coordinate with their team to overpower the other. Overwatch supports both casual and ranked matchmaking, as well as a rotating set of arcade modes, and the game has since become a popular esport , featuring the Overwatch League that started in To support ongoing interest in the game, Blizzard has run several seasonal events, typically coinciding with worldwide events and holidays. These events last for two to three weeks, updating levels to incorporate elements of that theme, and provide new game modes along with the opportunity to buy items with credits or acquire them through the game's loot box system.
The original event last year was tied to the Summer Olympics, but even though those have come and gone, an athletic-themed Overwatch event remains, and with it come new skins and prizes buried in loot boxes. But the rest of the skins have remained under wraps until now. Update: literally as I write this, skins have been leaking out all over the place in the last hour. As is tradition, I will be buying and opening loot boxes on day one here so you can see what that kind of investment is likely to get you. Unlike Hearthstone which has banned Legendary duplicates altogether, Overwatch has just greatly reduced the odds of getting a repeat item, a system that has been tested with regular loot boxes before this. This is good news for the Summer Games event especially, because the old Tracer, Zarya and Lucio skins from last year are also in the loot pool, and I would be bummed to get those multiple times when there are new skins to find.
Earlier this week, I shelled out for my usual haul of Overwatch loot boxes on day one of the latest event, which this time was the return of Summer Games. Thanks to the new loot drop system that heavily reduces duplicates, I managed to get all seven of the new Summer Games legendary skins on my first go without having to buy any with gold. I do like his cape, though. This one was a little confusing to me, and feels more like an epic than legendary. I do like this one, but there are more excited selections in the mix. Junkrat was due for a Legendary skin and using cricket balls as bombs in this kit is a solid concept and good execution. She has a…really ugly tattoo on her leg, I was surprised to learn.
The Overwatch Summer Games are back for a third year. Along with a slightly revamped version of Lucioball in a brand-new arena location, we've also received a new set of fun-in-the-sun costumes. This gallery shows off the initial batch of vanity shots, but we'll continue adding to it now that the event is live with a closer look at every new and returning costume. This year, Summer games adds a Waveracer skin for D. Va and Gridironhardt skin for Reinhardt , as well as new looks for Winston and Ana and athletic attire for Roadhog and Zenyatta. Summer Games continues until August 30, so you have until then to unlock Overwatch's summer-themed skins and emotes. If you have Twitch Prime, linking your Twitch and Blizzard accounts before September 3 will earn you two loot boxes that each hold four random cosmetics for Wrecking Ball.

The event is now set to return for the second time, next week in August. The tweet below from the official Overwatch Twitter account revealed the Summer Games event will begin on August 9, which means there's less than a week until the event kicks off.
